Donald Trump is clearly, and we all know now, a tyran (from the ancient greek, tyrannos). He is not just another dictator, an usurper like others. Trump is to democracy what an autoimmune disease is to the human body. The body is sick, but the immune system does not recognize the illness. It lets the disease thrive while this one kills the body.
Trump has used only democratic means to reach the center of the body/power. And the democratic system doesn’t see him as a disease. Once holding the reins, he destroys democracy from within. And first, the civil rights, which are the expression of the democratic ideal.
By disrupting economics, by terrorizing undocumented workers or even legal migrants, by racketting the free press, by his kultur-kampf agains wokism, by taxing the poorest to give to his billionaires friends, by dismantling public services or humanitarian aid by creating chaos in every field of action, he is undermining the legitimity of any democratic system.
At the end, as an autoimmune disease, the body that hosts him, dyes. As long as we consider only the way he came to power – by some democratic elections – we will be unable to recognize the disease and to decide to overthrow the tyran.
