According to Donald Trump and considering his usual abuses, war is a business like any-other. War has a cost. If he makes war, he is waiting some money back to pay his investment in weapons and soldiers. In the war against the Chavista regime in Caracas, the money is in the oil fields of Maracaibo. He wants to capture this fossil fuel, to have it operated by American companies and before anything to prohibit access to the Chinese.
We thought we could see it regarding American policy towards Ukraine, but it’s now certain : there’s obviously a word missing from Donald Trump’s vocabulary (and there’s also an empty pigeonhole in his brain. At least one, may be more).
This word is : sovereignty. Each state is independent and autonomous, any foreign interference in internal affairs including economic decision is forbidden. Each state obeys its own rule, which is called Constitution. May be Donald doesn’t remember to have swear to protect the US Constitution one year before? Well, every country, including Venezuela has one, isn’t it incredible!?
Why will Venezuela surrender all or even some oil revenues to Donald Veloriraptor and his friends? Oil is a unearned income, a cash cow. And the revenues of it should be shared by all the Venezuelan citizen. The oil belong to them all indistinctly, because it lies in the soil of the sovereign state of Venezuela.
But oil is also an affliction for democracy. Except Norway, no country whose main natural resource is oil or gaz is a democracy : Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, Gabon, Russia (fuck Putin!) the list is quite long.
That’s why I am not very optimistic about Venezuela. But at the end of the power struggle that has just begun, oil revenues could profit neither American companies, nor the Venezuelian people, but some local ploutocrats associated with Chinese government in an intermediate solution.
