No, they won’t.
The gerrymandering fiddles have already begun in Texas, under Republican rule. Democrats in California have continued. And every state where it’s possible to cheat a seat, (see update note below) to the benefit of the republicans or to the benefit of the democrats, is soon going to do it.
Donald Trump is pulling the strings in order to retain majority control of the lower chamber of Congress in next year’s midterm elections.
They all forget in a hasty move that electoral mosaïc isn’t as stable as people in the stratosphere of power think. Imagine if the Latino vote completely shifted in favor of the Democrats, your entire redistricting could collapse in a snap.
By reforming mail-in voting and the electronic voting, as Trump has announced, the Republicans are giving themselves the opportunity to more easily stuff ballot boxes. You know, when the ballot box that should be empty arrives at the polling station with the « right » ballots already inside.
And in these cases of fraud, the only solution is to go to court. This postpones the final result even further. Including all possible levels of appeal. A significant amount of disorganization in Congress is expected in the aftermath of the midterms.
Don’t forget also the hypothesis Elon Musk is working on, with his electoral lottery expert (which legally amounts to buying votes, but who dares say that). He hopes to win three or four seats in each chamber to tip the scales, sometimes in favor of the Democrats, sometimes in favor of the Republicans. Another predictable mess.
Democratic friends, don’t count too much on the midterm elections to change the course of history. They are already rotten.
