“Oh my god… I have no words.” she said.

The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Venezuelan politician María Corina Machado for her efforts to promote a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy. She already has been awarded by the Vaclav Havel prize and the Sakharov prize, two europeans distinction that crown a defender of human rights each year.

She’s a plain woman, almost unknown, not a racist, stupid, supremacist macho man. She is not living in the gilt and gold, she is leaving in clandestiny in her own country, because she is wanted by Nicolas Maduro’s police. Nor did she twist her ally’s arm to make him sign a bogus peace agreement (on Gaza) since he was the one financing/fueling the war. She did not bomb any ship without warning, she simply called on the opposition to the dictatorship to unite without fear.

But she has a dark side anyway. She has been recommend to the Nobel Comittee by Marco Rubio, Trump’s foreign affairs secretary. She doesn’t care about how power could change hands in Caracas. During the 2024 presidential campaign, she maintained a neutral stance, mainly calling for the return of exiles.

But since then, she has reveal as ultra-liberal, close to Javier Milei and Jair Bolsonaro. She has called for military intervention against the Chavista regime. « You can’t negotiate with a criminal narcoterrorism network in a weak position, » she told Fox News. « The path to peace is freedom, and to have freedom, you have to be strong. »

She said nothing when Trump revoked the Temporary Protected Status enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans in the United States. Nor did she say anything when 252 of her fellow citizens, most of them innocent, were deported to El Salvador and incarcerated in a maximum-security prison owned by Nayib Bukele.

His teams have prepared a plan for the first 100 hours following Maduro’s ouster, to allow the transfer of power to Edmundo González, exiled in Spain and who claims victory in the 2024 presidential election with 70% of the vote.
