Usually, during a fair transaction between two grown-ups or two sovereign states, who are respectful of each other, the worst thing that can happen is… that the deal is not finalized.
But it’s unfair when Trump imposed a 35% tariff on Canada, due to the alleged passage of fentanyl through our northern border; or the 50% on Brazil in response to the lawsuits filed against former President Bolsonaro and because his True Social network is banned ; or 30% on Mexican imports because their border security efforts are not sufficient… All these measures have no commercial reason.
By coupling his tariff policy and some political demands, that’s not negotiation (or deals) that’s pure extortion.
When Trump is issuing an economic threat for political reasons, it is a clear interference in Canada’s, Mexico’s or Brazil’s internal affairs. This is in contradiction with all diplomatic customs established for more than 377 years (Westphalia Treaty 1648) on sovereignty of States. It’s blackmail between governements, just like any low-level maffioso does. Such in this scene :
And except if Trump is sending some Stealth B-2 jets with GBU-57 on Ottawa, Mexico city or Brasilia, the buffon just makes these governements laugh at his threats, convinced that they are right to resist. The only thing the clown gains, at the end, is the strengthening of opponent’s team spirit.
Poor Don.. So alone against the whole world ! Thanks God ! Melania – and her long arms and sweet fingers – is at home every night…
