1989: has been the year of the Soviet Empire’s collapse. 2025: will stay in memories as the year of the American-global-leadership’s end.
The year the United States has lost its mojo. All on its own. Without big noise or fanfare, without a major nuclear catastrophe, without a war like in an old Hollywood movie. Just like that, snap !
The skyfall was caused by the Chinese embargo on rare earths, and all this shitstorm around tariffs. The moral degradation and the Epstein affair didn’t help either. Then ends by the Ukrainian impasse and Putin laughing when Donald gets angry. The United States’ inability and impotence to impose peace in this conflict is so obvious.
All empires end this way. The Europeans, Spain, France and Great Britain, who once possessed half the planet, know this well. But they lost their colonial empires in the 1950s without turning embittered. Or trying to punish the whole world for their lost.
In Europe, their concern today is our political, economic and strategic decline. Our own « civilizational erasure » (as the national strategic document says) worries our former allies. Donald Trump and his accomplices, such as James D. Vance, hates Europeans so much. To such an extent that some analysts wonder if there won’t be one day a confrontation between Europe and the United States.
The questions are: will a confrontation US-Europe, on Greenland for instance, take place before, during or after the war between Poland-England-France with Russia ? And on which side, Russia or Europe/NATO alliance, will be the United states ?
And in case Taïwan is invaded by Xi’s troops, will the United states go to war and defend the micro processors industry ? Will they ask NATO to go to defend Taïwan too ? And will all the Europeans answer their call ? I certainly hope not, and I believe they think the same way in Europe…
2026 will be a very interesting year, but tough on the nerves !
