How much revenues the Trump’s tariff policies are creating for American Treasury ? August 2025 : $30 billion in tariff revenues for the Treasury department. August 2024 : $7 billion collected. A total of $165 billion in tariff revenues have been collected so far this year, for a year-to-date total of $70 billion in the same period. Half less. (to have an order of magnitude, the american federal budget is : $ 6750 billions estimated for 2024)
With this recent moves, tariffs are adding tens of billions of dollars to federal revenue. It’s a new source of cash for the government. And all this money will help to cover the huge deficit voted in July in the One Big Beautiful Wonderful Marveillous Act. A perfect timing.
However, the Trump administration may have to refund some or all of those funds if the Supreme court rules against the legality of tariffs executive order. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent knows it. He asserted that between $750 billion and $1 trillion in tariffs could be collected by June 2026, when the Supreme Doormat is likely to issue its decision.
If the Court let these funds to the administration, they won’t pay for the damages (inflation AND unemployement) on the american economy the tariffs policy will create in the next months. The extra-money is going in the pocket of rich people, the President’s friend. Not to social or healthcare programs.
