The American labor force is melting down like ice in the sun.
According to Census Bureau data analyzed by the Pew Research Center, more than 1.2 million immigrants disappeared from the U.S. labor force between January and the end of July. This figure includes both undocumented immigrants and legal residents.
Immigrants make up nearly 20% of the U.S. workforce, and data shows that 45% of workers in agriculture, fishing, and forestry are immigrants, along with about 30% of construction workers and 24% of workers in service industries such as restaurants.
